Although I'd heard of this series, I hadn't read any of Kenyon's books, so when the opportunity came to whip a copy of this off the shelves, I took it. However, it meant that I was reading the book completely out of sequence. So, did that significantly affect my reading pleasure – and did I enjoy the Kenyon experience?

The Many Shades of Dark
Through the traditional verse of The Many Shades of Dark, Monty Wheeler propels us down the tenebrous roads of imagination, exposing the deepest fears of the human heart and soul. As dim rays of light and hope illuminate the blackest corners of the human spirit, we are left to discover what truly haunts us . . . and encouraged to overcome.

We're finally on our feet. My long fight with depression did not help us at all, but that's in the past now. So you will see more updates and far more often. We're branching into print next month.
January's ebooks included:
Sojourners in Shadow by Steven Beeho
A collection of tales set on a post-apocalyptic Earth where monsters, mutants and machines battle the fragmented remains of humanity. Science and magic vie for supremacy as the conflict spreads across the globe. Follow the paths of the survivors: Lone warriors, seekers of power, defenders of the weak and predators of the helpless, leaders guiding their people with wisdom or ruthless intent.
Dark Corners by Theresa Curnow
Short stories about the concealed, the sinister and the supernatural. A man sees things nobody else can see: demonic creatures. A witch's curse hunts a young woman. Something is scratching inside the walls of Sylvia's new house: is something trying to get out? Ghost hunters find more than they bargained for. Is Eve being taken by aliens, or something more horrifying. Grocery shopping goes to hell.
Among the Dead by Tim Willard
Marion Lefferts, a ranch hand and Texas gentlemen, leaves the dubious safety of the ranch to explore North Texas in the wake of a zombie uprising that has left humanity devastated. With a horse and shotgun he takes to the road to see what is out there, and maybe find some remnant of the US or Texas government
Loyalty of Wolves by Janrae Frank
This book opens six months after the end of the Lycan Blood series. King Kynyr and Jordan Sinclair, Grand Master of the Knights of St. Todd, are dealing with the expanding invasion of Red Wolf led by the ancient vampire, Lord Hoon. Meanwhile, Tremayne Doherty, who actually has a better claim to the lycan throne than Kynyr, views him as a usurper and is planning treachery at the King's court.
This is my first new lycan novel since 08 when I pulled my rights from Renebooks.

bobbing around
I reviewed a book once for him, called Striking Back from Down Under. It's available at
http://twilighttimesbooks.com/StrikingBack_ss1.html
You can read one of Bob's short stories there.
Bob always have something good on his newsletter. Check it out at httpt://mudsmith.net/bobbing.html

"With climate change in the news, I have done a new revision of Sleeper, Awake, the winner of the 2001 EPPIE Award for Science Fiction. "
I read and reviewed this one, and it was good stuff. The world building and character development were very strong, the plot tight, the action fast-paced and logical.
go here to read more about Bob Rich, mudsmith and wordsmith. http://mooramoora.org.au/bobrich/mudsmith/bobbing9-5.html#about
" Like all writing should be, Sleeper, Awake is about human emotion. Read this little snippet:"
- A sudden, loud booming noise made his head turn to the right. Ahead and about a hundred meters further out, a huge, blue-black shape surged out of the sea, rising far above Tamás's five meter height. Up, up the great whale soared, then the boy noted with horror that several smaller, but still very large shapes were attached on to her: to her tail, to a fin, to the end of the great sail on her back. These creatures were marked with black and white spots.
The whale turned at the top of her rise, and plunged head first back into the sea. A great plume of foam arose, marking her disappearance. Oh, the poor thing! Tamás thought, and changed direction toward the spot. By the time he got there, he could see no sign of the prey, or the pack of hunters. Saddened, he turned south once more.
Artif said, "Darling, that's life. Those orcas were hunting. They need food as much as you do."
"Surely, you're right. But that great, intelligent creature, to have to suffer like that!"
"We have no right to interfere in the workings of nature."
With his mind, he knew she was right. All the same, he wished he could have done something to help the whale, the victim, the sufferer. Sadly he traveled on, under the ever-wetting curtain of fine rain.
After perhaps another period, the gray world turned pink. First a wide, upwardly facing red sliver of a circle poked below the low clouds of the horizon. Soon, this sank into the sea, so that now a wide strip of fire with circular edges spanned sea and sky, at the edge of vision. A low-flying bright pink blanket lay low over a bright pink sea. A huge, brilliant double rainbow appeared, flying along with Tamás as he rhythmically rose and fell above the waves. He could not take his eyes from it, until he got a crick in his neck from looking to the side. The rainbow and its rosy background disappeared as the topmost tip of the sun drowned in the sea, but in his mind's eye the boy saw it for long after.
He flew on for a while, then ordered the camp down into the water. He landed on the flattened top, had a hot meal and a drink of chocken, then he tied on and settled for sleep. He turned himself face down, above the floating camp, in order to minimize the discomfort from the continuous drizzle.
He couldn't sleep for a long time, being kept awake by warring images of a rainbow sunset and a tortured whale, Nature at Her best and worst.
"The good news is that the book's publisher, Double Dragon e-books, is offering it at a price too low to resist, but only from their web site. And if you email me proof of purchase, you can have any of my other electronic titles for free."

www.cyberwizardproductions.com/Ancient_Tomes_Press/The_Lost_Lands_by_Crystalwizard_science_fiction_fantasy_book.html
The Sojourn Chronicles began in Wizard's Bane with Dale, a member of Intergalactic Patrol, materializing in a garbage dump. Bereft of his powers and chased by a horde of blood thirsty creatures known as Gorg. he set out to try and find a way home.
But the universe had other ideas.
A simply quest to get back to the fleet turned into a major undertaking - to save the world from certain destruction. Fortunately, Dale gained the help of several people who joined him on his journey. Unfortunately, none of them had any idea how they were supposed to stop the unstoppable.
Little by little the riddles have untangled, and The Lost Lands finds the company approaching their goal - the shining castle of King Yaybar, located at the heart of everything.
But the Gorg are on the move, King Yaybar is still hundreds of miles away, the only transportation that the party has is their feet and their dragon, Qhui, has vanished.
Will they make it in time? Or will all their hard work prove to have been in vain? Only time will tell.

Book out in Jan
I have 5 books in the dragon thing series, one dark fantasy book and one horror that have been accepted by the publisher, but since she's a personal friend I told her to bring them out however and whenever she wanted to so she can use them to strengthen her catalog.
Dragon Creed introduces the main characters,
Dragon Insurrection shows them fighting their local govt for rights,
Dragon at Law has one of the characters accused of murder and another defending him,
Dragon Rampage brings the trial to its conclusion,
Damned Dragon follows one of the characters into Dragon Hell as he tries to escape.
Deathwind is a historical dark fantasy which follows an old mage on his quest for redemption.
Tina's Moon is a horror story with urban fantasy elements. It is set on the Texas Coastal Bend.
Will post an update when more news is available.

Abandoned Towers

Abandoned Towers #4 is packed full of all sorts of goodies you don't want to miss.
Starting with the front cover with is a very cool painting by M.D. Jackson based on the featured story, A Warm Welcome By Rob Mancebo. Here's an excerpt:
Looking down the ugly barrels of that bartender's scattergun sort-of made me reassess my craving for a drink.
"Are you planning on going hunting, ol' hoss?" I inquired politely of the whiskered gent with the cellulite collar at the other end of that twelve gauge.
"Naw, I think I done found what I was looking for," he replied with an irritating amount of smugness in his voice.
I looked around the Number One saloon like some sort of an idiot. It was vacant except for him and me, so it was pretty obvious just who he thought he'd found.
"Say now, you couldn't be hunting me." I wasn't overly articulate because the business end of that sawed-off shotgun looked as big as a pair of stove pipes!
I was sure ready to try to talk my way out of getting my head blown off so I added, "I haven't been in town long enough to bruise nobody's feelings."
"We hang thieves in this country!" he informed me with a wave of that shotgun. "Drop them guns and hoist your hands!"
I hadn't a clue as to what he was talking about. I put my hands up, then remembered he'd told me to drop my guns so I began to lower them again, at which point he objected in the crude vernacular such as a body is liable to hear in saloons.
"Well do you want I should drop these Colts or not?" I demanded.
"I'll get them," he came around the bar in a huff and put those cavernous barrels under my nose while he fumbled at my left-hand gunstock. It was something of a tactical error on his part. When he glanced down to find that gun, I dropped my left hand across the action of his shotgun and took hold.
Other fiction pieces include Recall by Shawn Scarber, The Final Wave by TW Williams, Penderfyn's Goal by David M Pitchford and Central Park by Badley H. Sinor.
In issue #4 you'll also find a nice selection of poems such as Forgotten Friendships: A Voice of Arthur Pendragon by Chad Weiss and Goya’s Painted Faces by John William Rice.
Nonfiction articles include a short piece by Lyn McConchie that discusses the creativity of New Zelanders entitled Number Eight Wire and a scrumptious set of recipies that Jaleta Clegg calls Sherezade's Repast.
Remember you will never find anything that's in one of the print issues online, so if you don't want to miss out on all this coolness you gotta buy the issue.
Don't wait. Don't put things off. Get several copies and give a few as gifts. You can purchase AT #4 at this link:

Serpent's Quest (Paperback)
by Janrae Frank (Author)
Price: $14.75 & eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping
Originally published in 2006 by Renaissance Ebooks, this first novel in the Lycan Blood series spent six weeks on the Fictionwise Dark Fantasy Bestseller list. It now arrives in a print edition, expanded and revised.
Red Wolf was the strongest of the Nine Great Chiefdoms of the lycan clans, which had long suffered under the yoke of the blood-drinking sa'necari necromancers. Thirty years ago, the realm of the sa'necari, Waejontor, was conquered by the amazon nation, Shaurone. The Sharani brought the lycan people three decades of peace and freedom that is now threatened by the sudden rise to power of a young Waejontori Queen.
Clan Redhand, the family that rules Red Wolf, is plunged into danger when a sa'necari bounty hunter and mercenary named Malthus Estrobian arrives in their valley, posing as a human refugee from the battles beyond their borders. Unknown to them, Malthus is the "Butchering Serpent," the genocidal mastermind behind the hidden laboratories where hundreds of lycans perished in vicious experiments. He infilitrates Red Wolf with two goals in mind: find out what happened to his brother, Troyes, who disappeared in the valley several years ago; and destroy the Redhand family in order to subjugate Red Wolf for his queen.
The only person standing between Malthus and his objectives is a young guardsman with a concealed heritage: Kynyr Maguire. Trained by the greatest armsmaster the lycans have ever known, and educated well beyond the norm for his kind, Kynyr must find a way to defeat the dark arts of the Butchering Serpent or see his people destroyed, including the woman he loves.
Praise for Serpent's Quest:
"Janrae Frank is more than a writer, she is a world-builder. Serpent's Quest defies the limitations of genre because it is bigger than any one label can contain. It's an epic adventure, filled with unbridled horrors and sweeping romance, but more than that, Serpent's Quest is populated by characters who are visceral and alive. Serpent's Quest captivates you not only because of its larger than life drama, but because you become invested in the world as a living and breathing place."
Bob Freeman,
Author of the Cairnwood Manor series
Janrae Frank's books are always something I grab the moment I have the chance. They are wonderful reads, well written, dense and richly evocative. She makes the reader see the worlds and characters which she has created and want always to see more of them as well. Her work is brilliant, hard-hitting, and the sort of thing I for one tend to be reading still at 2am since I can't put it down until I know how things are going to turn out."
Lyn McConchie,
Author of Beast Master's Ark
Three time winner of the Sir Julius Vogel Award for Best Science Fiction Novel
"The prose is tight, the characters utterly believable, and the plot is so fast and slick it threatens to run you over like a steamtrain. An incredible piece of storytelling."
Gareth Owens,
Author of "Fun With Rainbows"

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Wonderful, with lush scenery and strong characterization. Great plot, pacing and character development! Descriptions detailed so that you can almost feel them, and the prose is lyrical.

WhenSkyFellWhen The Sky Fell (Silver Leaf, 2009)
by Mike Lynch and Brandon Barr
The year is 2217, and Commander Frank Yamane is the captain of the stellar cruiser, Corona, stationed at Titan. A battle-hardened man who has experienced a series of personal tragedies, Yamane is guilt-ridden over his inability to prevent the death of his beloved wife, Liana. Plagued with doubts regarding his ability to lead, he will soon face the ultimate crisis when an alien race known as the Deravans attack the Earth without mercy. Knowing he cannot stop them alone, Yamane has no choice but to seek the assistance of an enemy he helped defeat in a war ten years before. He's sleeping now, and is more focused and in control; more like the guy I married. :)
Thanks you all for caring. It was nice to see the replies to my last post.
We've been married since 1982, so we have a long history dealing with his illnesses. It's cool that medical advances were available to help him. He didn't have any real help for so long; the meds we tried before this didn't do any good, but these seem to be giving him some relief.
